Rare Club4AG

Back in the early days of Club4AG, parts for the AE86 was difficult to come by.  If you wanted some cool parts, you had to look to the other side of the pacific, Japan not China.  One of the big things at the time was doing 20 valve swaps.  The only down side was a proper header or lack of.  But Moto from Club4AG contracted Techno Spirits boss Kumakura san to a make couple headers for the left hand drive cars.  I forget how many went into circulation but I do remember 16v and 20v versions being made.

Macross World Convention 2013

Just like my 80's Corolla, I like my 80's anime.  Macross is tops on the list next to Robotech.  After missing a few years, I finally remembered to mark the calender for this event.

The outskirts of Los Angeles

There's not many places that I can cater to hobbies like this place does.  Way back, when I owned a black 1st generation 4Runner (aka Black Mamba) I would go cross rivers, catch some air, and play in the mud.

A few miles further up the road, I took the 80's corolla (aka Silver Surfer) up for some spirited runs through it's many corners, pretending to be Takumi on a tofu run.

In between the two spots is a range where I can stop and have a call of duty moment.

Second chance, because TRD

Usually when stuff breaks, it gets tossed.  But if it's TRD and you're a filipino, it's your duty to fix it.

Stumbled upon a local show in the shopping plaza parking lot.  Best of all, it was free.

Off the chain

Made in England, it's special

Over the years i've accumulated quite a few tools.  From old wooden handled screw drivers to just odd specialty tools which have stumped me on it's purpose.  Like this tool above, do you know it's purpose.  It's been sitting in my tool box for years and I never new what I did.  That is until recentl,y this tool geek showed me a chain breaker that he uses for rebuilding bike chains.  WTH?? it's like a light bulb went off.  All these years (over 15) this tool has been sitting in the tool box and I finally know it does.

Red dog do you read?

The red starlet is still here baking in the socal weather.  Still quite a ways from being completed.  I still have many things that needed to be done.  Though I was able to tackle a them the past couple of weekends.  Like making a hole for the relocated transmission shifter.

Doing a brake inspection and found a pad on the thin side. Luckily, I found it before it caused any more damage to the wallet.

JDM catch can comparison

Legit JDM Greddy catch weighs in a 3lbs. 3oz.  Super cool definite points fo' sho'. It's easier to mount  and keeps everything nice and clean.  'Cuz that's how we do fo' sho'.

JDM coffee in a can. Weighs in at 20oz. Quenches thirst while giving your car that JDM vibe.  Guaranteed cool guy points fo' sho' and track.  A bit tricky to mount and doesn't keep the engine bay tidy as the Greddy kit.

How do you 8/6?

What do you do besides go to meets and hang out with other dudes enthusiasts.  For me, I working too much or just too lazy, so that was out of the question.  Though the weekend previous I did take out the old Corolla for a marathon, of sorts, in the canyons.

The dark side is strong with this one.

It seems that the FR-S' twin the BRZ is heading towards the path of the dark side with the addition of a turbo in the near future.  Where is Yoda when you need him.

Summer Wardrobe

With 86Fest just around the corner, what are you going to wear.  May I suggest the latest t shirt from "The Flying 86" line.  Show your spirit when you rock this at the meet.  What's also great is that it's in black so when you're working on the corolla, the grease and tire dust won't show.  I'm sure Taka wouldn't mind as long as you're not working on an s chassis.

Exhaust flanges

If you're going to use exhaust flanges for spring perches, at least grind them down so it looks like a proper kit.  Negative points fo' sho'.

Which to choose

Though I think with Mclaren's current season, I don't think i'll be breaking out the victory red anytime soon.

Missing a piece

Created a transmission mount for the Red dog, it ain't the prettiest but it'll hold it's own.  You'd think the kit to mount the engine would include the transmission mount.  It's like cereal without the milk.  Gotta go out to the barn and get it yourself.

Porsche 911: One Car to Do It All

In the early days of corolla ownership, it was just like this porsche.  One that does it all.  Then it evolved into strictly a track only duty.  Watching this makes me want to return back to those roots.

Tailgaters

They can be a tad annoying, but some people already have a solution to that.

Relocate the battery

For the old KP Starlet, the battery is located on the passenger side of the vehicle (its the black plate on the left).  Since I'm using the factory u.s. spec 4AGE fuel management system (satisfy the smog nazis in the great state of commiefornia).  The air flow meter would be sitting in the original battery spot.  Rather than have it mounted in the trunk and lose space, it would be better that I use the real estate that's on the passenger side.

AX 2013

The stench of anime nerds fill the air at the Los Angeles Convention Center, for the annual Anime Expo.  Every year I notice it gets more crowded by the long lines of people waiting to get in to the venue.

Red's fuel system

Setting up the fuel system for red October is pretty straight forward as long as you got a plan in hand and all the proper parts for installation.  Since i've done a few of these already, I knew what to do already.

Clutch for red

One thing the red rooster has in common with some of the older Hondas, is that they both use a cable type clutch setup.  And just like the honda crowd, when they wanna install the twin cam engine into their chassis, they need to convert to a hydraulic system.  Unless you have the luck of the irish and get your hands on a rare bellhousing that bolts to the 4AG while retaining the old cable setup.  I have no such luck, so hydraulic it shall be.

Mimic the line

Next round for Red Robin is to work on the line.  The fuel line that is currently equipped with the car is dinky, meant only to supply a lowly 1.3 liter carbed engine.  Since the owner wishes to see triple duty of street, track, and maybe a little bit of show.  An updated line will be required.

Where to start

Now that I have Giant Red Star parked and have gone through what needs to be done, I come to conclusion it needs everything from the ground up.  But at least the engine is in and a hydraulic setup is done.  Too bad i'll probably need to pull the motor, and the clutch is only 30% done.  sigh.  Where shall I begin.

New intercooler

Even though barney sits more than exercises, I try to get stuff done during it's hibernation periods.  This time around I decided to install another intercooler.  Though there's nothing wrong with the current setup at the moment.  Changing setups each year is how we do it fo' sho.
