South Pacific Island + Ariana Grande= Singapore GP

Singapore 09-16-17_023
Many months back I made a decision to head out to place called Singapore, to see the singing diva Ariana Grande and as a bonus watch Formula 1.  The only night race on the Formula 1 schedule and also what I thought at the time, it’s final race.  But we now know that’s all fake news.  No matter, this place was off the hook fun.

Turf and Tarmac

More like wet and cold

Some say trouble comes in threes.  Others may look at it as third time’s the charm.  For me I got the latter.  After failing 2 times to attend another F1 event, since my last one in 2012.  It took me a third try to get it right.  It was an austin trip to remember.

T12

Yesterday I sat at Turn 12 of the Circuit of the Americas.  Weather was cool and bright, great day to watch the race.

Another view of turn 12.  DRS zone just ahead of the turn,  this is where many good battles were won and fought here.  This definitely is a fanstastic Formula 1 venue and everyone has to at least attend it just once or perhaps more.

And the after party wasn't bad either with some good music, chill atmosphere and alot of expensive beer.

Nascar vs F1 engine tech

Tatra T603 EngineImage via Wikipedia

Weather you are a fan of either or both here's something for you tech heads out there. It's good reading and fascinating at how close they are. So for some of you who very ignorant in good'ol boy tech may want to take a gander at this. Note: it's quite a read so if you hate reading it may not be for you. But reading is a good thing so let's enjoy.

Yes. Friday is good

For Good Friday I had the day off. To take advantage of this rare weekday off, I headed in search of tools. Sure I probably could have assisted in helping a privateer in the Formula D event this weekend. But i'm semi retired from wrenching and nobody asked.

In a nondescript building in Huntington Beach, California, is a tool distributor known quietly selling Beta tools. Fortunate for me they just opened up the show room just a week ago. I can't say I have a tool fetish like some others, but I do own some rare tools that have some european heritage. This is where Beta comes in, it's the Snap On of europe and have supplied tools to

Formula One and MotoGP.

Here some stuff if you're a Ferrari owner and need tools to work on your prancing horse, cause you know will. But you probably take your car to Luigi anyways rather than work on it yourself.

Another thing that may tickle your fancy is that Beta is just a side business. The place is actually called California Hot Rod Shop. Their main business is of course high end hot rods. If you've seen the show Chop, Cut, Rebuild on Speed. Then you'll know of this shop. It's where they built the bonneville car. I was given a small tour of the shop and it is definitely a cool shop to see.

Finding the place is also very easy. As most racers know of Sube Sports, this place is right up the street from them.

And no the shop doesn't look like this. This was actually the shop up in Denver, Colorado. It's closed down and all operations are at the Huntington Beach facility.

For more information on Beta tools USA please take a look at the site. For the Italian site click here

Another one bites the dust

Hmm I wonder if it's me or coincidence. It seems that every time I contemplate going to a Formula 1 race they decide to give it the boot. It seems that the 2009 Canadian Grand Prix will not happen. First was U.S. Grand Prix and now Canada. Which is sad, this means there's no North American Formula 1 race. I wonder if I decide to attend Singapore Grand Prix will they cancel it? Hopefully all this is temporary and Formula 1 will return to North America.

I Way: Best simulator out?

I never been much of a video game geek unless it came to racing simulators.  Even then I can't really spend the money when I can go out and do the real thing, which is stupid since it's probably cheaper than going out on track.  But during my endless waste of scouring the internet, I came across this video of a simulator which looks fantastic.  Unfortunately, it's in France, yes home of the Eiffel Tower and french toast.  Located in the city Lyon, I Way is like a spa for guys.  Espcially gear heads, with an emphasis in racing.  Inside you'll find racing simulators for Formula 1, Rally, and endurance racing.  But rather sit in a seat with steering wheel, the patron is seated in full size racing machines that are operated with hydrualics that i've only seen on flight simulators.  There's also a full bar and spa which you can relax after a hard day at the simulator.

Barking at your front door

With the upcoming Singapore GP let's get riled up with the sounds of different F1 engines. Starting with a v12 to a v10 and ending with a V16. Though it's not as good as the real thing, but it still sounds amazing.

2010 U.S. Grand Prix?

With no Formula 1 stop this year or next year, it's been disheartening not being able to watch. Well i'm just disgruntled because I had a chance to go in '07 but passed. Now teams are clamoring to try and get the U.S. Grand Prix back to the states by 2010. A venue is up in the air, but one spot that is up for consideration is Las Vegas. Which is really cool and close by, though I'd like to see Long Beach back in the loop. Hopefully we'll see Formula 1 back in the U.S. by 2010.
