Instead of girls on trampolines, we have girl driving a Nissan Sunny truck. But what's cool is what they're hauling.

AE86 nights, moving forward

Those ceiling fans are humongous
After my less than stellar track day.  I cleaned up and headed out to Longo Toyota, for the 5th anniversary of AE86 Nights.  It was on the way home anyways.

eXtreme 4-12

It's been some time since I laid ol' barnacle on some tarmac.  Over the weekend, instead of heading to Long Beach Ca. to watch Indy cars.  I decided to head out to Streets of Willow for some fun.

Easter weekend Formula D

Thought I was going to spend a quiet Easter weekend at home.  Maybe working on some projects that I've been neglecting.  But ended up in Long Beach for Formula D.  The weather was spectacular and the smoke was extra thick.

Sooner than I thought

It was just a matter of time before someone stuffs a V8 into the FRS chassis.  Though it didn't come from the good 'ol boys.  And it ain't a Chevy LS motor.  I was surprised that it came from the land of the rising sun.  I guess they realize ain't no replacement for displacement.

Camping in style

This summer, I think I'll go camping up in the mountains.  I'll need to find the proper vehicle to get up those mountain roads.  I think this guy has the right idea.

Sunday Hat trick

Hat Trick (arcade game)
Hat Trick (arcade game) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Sunday was very productive.  Watched Formula 1Malalysia, NASCAR California Speedway, and Indy cars St. Petersburg Florida.  Quite a motorsports hat trick, since it was raining couldn't really do much else.  But who's complaining.

Crashing an FT86

When it comes to new cars it's only a matter of time when someone who thinks he/she knows, but really he/she doesn't really know.  With the up coming arrival of the Scion's FT86, I wonder who will be the first idiot to crash one of these cars.  Go to 1:00 to skip all the other non sense.

Wonder(ful)

Braved the monsoon weather to visit ComicCon's little brother, WonderCon at the Anaheim Convention Center.  Never been to a comic convention before so this would be something new.  I looks similar to  Anime Expo, except with comic book characters.

AE86 Tech #86-26: The way of GZE

Installing a 4AGZE is a fairly straight forward, unlike a turbo setup, this requires little creativity and fab work.  But some cars like trueno azul here, like to make things complicated, but i'm here to fix all that craziness.  When it arrived some months back, it was running horribly.  Running like terribly tuned carbed engine.

Bigger is Better by NST

Received a package by super coupe's owner.  Since he is running a 4AGZE under the hood and wanting just a little bit more power.  The best route to create that power is to get a bigger pulley.  But what pulley should he run?  The biggest one you can get your hands.  Enter the NST pulley set for 4AGZE.

Red Pandas

Sometimes I need to take a quick break from breathing all those gas fumes.  Let's watch some red pandas.  If I ever get a drift team together I'll name it red pandas, and it will have AE86 corolla hatchbacks in the red panda paint scheme.

AE86 Tech #86-25: GZE Resistor

I've notice quite a few 4AGZE powered cars that never use the fuel pump resistor, then again many setups imported from Japan never come with them.  Even an online harness builder opts to leave out the often ignored option.  It doesn't affect start up nor getting from point a to b.  Though some sensitive drivers will notice that driveability is a bit annoying at times. While others who may be a bit numb when it comes to driving have no clue of what's going on or maybe they just don't care.

Refills

Even though it doesn't rain very often in Southern California, the wipers do need to get replaced.  When they're disintegrating and falling off the wiper is usually when I go get them replaced. So I swing by the local parts store to get some wiper refills, and nothing was stocked.  After going through a few stores I come up empty handed.  It seems the auto parts stores have decided to drop the wiper blade refills and now only sell he whole wiper.  Sure I could just update the wipers to newer wipers. But like the JDM fanatics who like their JDM parts.  I like my OEM parts and strive to keep the car's originality intact.

Easier said than done

Oceans 86 owner requested the return to service of it's power steering system.  Previously, it was decommissioned and the lines looped to prevent dirt contimation in the event of possible reactivation.  Now that time has finally arrived.  But lucky me, it wouldn't be a typical straight forward install.

Knock sensor

Now that holiday's are over, it's about time I get back to wrenching ol' corolla.  But the deep blue sea is still on the driveway, I need to start cracking before I can start my own stuff.  Continuing my poking and prodding of blue's insides.  I see it's a hodge podge of 4A variations to make a whole, I needed to make some corrections.

Texas Holiday '11

This Christmas I made a trip to visit relatives in Houston, Texas.  It's been a very long time since I been to the lone star state.  I have passed by here a few times, but never stopped to see how much has changed.  Growing up in  a military family, we moved around the country numerous times.  One of our stops was Corpus Christi, Texas in the early 80's.  Reagan was elected president and it was all about Cowboys football.

New Tree

I've always been lazy when it came to the christmas tree. Putting up, displaying, and taking down the tree in the span of three weeks just plain sucks. Even though it's always been a family tradition for me, since I was a little runt, it seems to have flown by me. Now I think i've found a tree that I can be proud to put up every year. Have a great holiday!

Alternator mount make over

Since deep blue is still on the premises, the owner requested the oem power steering setup to be installed.  But before that could be done, I needed to redo the alternator bracket.   This is how it arrived.  It utilized a modified AE92 4AGZE bracket, a couple of bolts, some aluminum square tube and a stack of washers.  The washers were used to adjust the tension.  Now that the power steering setup will be added, the alternator will be solid mount.

When racing in Japan, listening to KROQ is a must.  For those who are clueless, KROQ is a local alternative rock station in Southern California.  The home of Loveline and Almost Acoustic Christmas.

AE86 Tech #86-24: Rewire alternator

For those who've done the GZE swap, that's supercharge engine in 4A talk, know that swapping the alternator to the other side is a necessity.  Originally the alternator was located on the passenger side (referring to left hand drive cars).  But since the supercharger (like the one posted in the above pic) is planted there, the alternator needs to move to the other side.  One thing i've noticed is the way people wire their setups.  The ones i've seen have always extend the exisiting wires.  Which looks awfully cluttered.  But there is another way, though a bit more work is involved, it's much nicer.  And you know were all about nice.

Burning some oil

Coming across a Mercedes diesels was always rare for me, with it's distinct sound emanating from it's exhaust under the hood to the distinct smell of burning diesel.  I remember they were slower than molasses on a frigid winter morning.  Few days ago a diesel Merc' stopped by for a visit.  But it was just passing through.
