Enter the Neo

80-90 Neo Classic

As the 80’s Japanese cars enter their mid 30’s, the people who brought you the Japanese Classic Car show, have done it again, with the Neo Classic Car show.  Bringing out the next generation of Japanese classics from the 80’s and 90’s.  I figured it would be cool to check 80’s cars with side markers and fuba antennas and 90’s cars decked out in ridiculous amount of stickers and colored vinyl interior.  But that wasn’t the case.

JCCS 2015 Fo' Sho'

Visiting car shows is not a yearly pilgrimage, for me, unlike others in this automotive game.  Just seems boring see same cars and people year after year.  So when I can't remember when the last time I went to a JCCS show it's about time.

Toyota MR2 hybrid

I'm not much into drag racing, but when I do, it will be in a Honda engine stuffed into a Toyota MR2.  Just won't take it to TORC.

EE8

Would you believe this car started off as an Honda?  EF8 CRX to be exact. IMO probably the best looking builds i've seen.

Breaking Honda brakes

Brake failure at almost 120mph is definitely not fun.  I wonder if it was a defect or Honda factory brakes just over burdened.

FWD rotary

Even though it's got the heart of a wanker Wankel.  He still drives it like a Honda.

More Hoshino

Spotted a Honda Accord Wagon, sporting Hoshino Impuls.  They look cool.   If they washed the car it would look amazingly dapper.

Drift Day prequel

Mark H. from Slide Squad

Before the drift days, there was Club4ag and Speetrial USA. Back then it was the diehard Corolla drivers from Club4AG making out to Speedtrial USA events. Back then it was all about Hondas, car shows and drag racing.  The little known technique of drifting was only known to the circuit racers and underground canyon runners. On cool day at Buttonwillow raceway in 2000 or was it 2001, north and south corolla drivers, with a few 240SX sprinkled in, met for drift action.  Back then none of the local track officials, nor the traditional grip drivers had no clue of what drifting was about or the firestorm that it was about to create in the industry.

I found some old photos of the event and scanned them in.

30K???

According to my sister that's how many miles since the timing belt was changed.  Makes me wonder if the bastards actually changed the belt.  At first was thinking the motor was done for.  Since Honda motors are interference fit engines.  Looked it over to see any signs of damage and threw another belt.  In few minutes it was up and running with no signs of damage.  I guess the D15 motors are exempt from the interference rumors.

FF squad

I remember these guys from the canyon run days many years ago. Fast forward to now, and looks like they've grown up and gotten into open track days. Hardcore Honda guys, that actually build clean cars, but also very functional. They created a video many of us can relate. Of privateer track guys and their love for r compounds and high rev engines. Even though it's a video full of hondas, a corolla makes a brief guest appearance.

Tonda?

I'm not sure if i really like or hate this thing. Definitely a very unique mix. Taking a old Honda hatchback and stuffing a Toyota's supercharged 4AGE into the boot, ala Ford Shogun or Renault R5. Though I think it's just the looks of it just turns me off. It'll need a good drop and some gigantic fender flares to make it look cool. After looking cool, the reat of it should be taken care of since there looks to be a couple loose ends that need to be taken care of before it should be considered safe for bashing on the street.

This beast is up on ebay looking for a new owner here.

Lemons v2.0

Since the next 24 Hours of LeMons is a few months away, I've been contemplating of trying a new chassis. Sure the MR2 is invincible and it just won't die, I think it's about time to try and race a different chassis. My first choice would have been rwd like an Nissan s-chassis. They are becoming more abundant since lots of rookie drifters love to smack'em into walls. But I get a tip from good friend Wesley that a shop has stripped and caged late 90's Honda Civic HB available. FF car that's different, I never really road raced an FF before, so why not check it out.

When he said stripped, it was stripped. No suspension, no interior, etc.

I think it was a drag car.

It' just a storage shed now.

And an nursery a tree is starting to take root into the chassis.

Wes really likes this car.

But next to the car was this late 90's Honda Civic 4 door, which apprently is for sale due to a collision.

Doesn't look too bad.

EWWW. But it doesn't look like it'll affect anything.

Fit and finish it just a tad off.

Wes suggested that picking up both and transferring everything from the 4 door into the hatchback, since they are similar chassis. It's going to be a lot work, but it's do able. I'm always up for a challenge, but i'm not so sure about other members of the team. But just then I just thought why not just pick up the 4 door and cage it. It's already running, probably just needs to be looked over to make sure everything is sound. Remember kids it's a Honda. So in a few days we'll probably decided what will be the next turn on the road to Lemons.
