Going at a snail's pace

Finally got it off the jack stands and now it's moving under it's own power.  Now the question is how do I get Barney's engine broken-in before the next event, since it has no papers for street.   Then again, who needs break in time.

Transmission choices

I've been working on the design of this RX7 Turbo II to 4AG transmission adapter for quite some time.  But as it sits I'm only 50% done.  As much as i'd like to run this setup, wanna be like Taka A. and Toshiki Y., it may also not be cost effective for me.  Now I'm contemplating other avenues that may be more cost effective than this one.

Spin Cycle

A collection of canyon runs the early 90's japan in spin cycle mode. I wonder how many of these drivers ended up in D1?

I get it done... eventually

After many months of off and on tinkering, I finally got the lilac special up and running this long President's Day weekend.  Finally hearing the sound of my 4AG come to life.  Thanks to the boss with providing the final parts to get the motor completed.  Now comes the final checklist of making sure everything is well.

R.I.P. Walt

Racer Walt Bohren passed away days ago, but I just found out.  Racing rotary cars in the 70's and 80's.  Including the Racing Beat/ Akai RX 7 (shown above) in the IMSA racing series.  He helped forge Mazdas racing program in America.  My condolences to family.

Drift Day prequel

Mark H. from Slide Squad

Before the drift days, there was Club4ag and Speetrial USA. Back then it was the diehard Corolla drivers from Club4AG making out to Speedtrial USA events. Back then it was all about Hondas, car shows and drag racing.  The little known technique of drifting was only known to the circuit racers and underground canyon runners. On cool day at Buttonwillow raceway in 2000 or was it 2001, north and south corolla drivers, with a few 240SX sprinkled in, met for drift action.  Back then none of the local track officials, nor the traditional grip drivers had no clue of what drifting was about or the firestorm that it was about to create in the industry.

I found some old photos of the event and scanned them in.

Must do

After working with fiberglass a few months back, decided to try my hand at some repair work.  I broke a sideskirt in 2 pieces recently, so it was the perfect candidate for the repair.  Always being on a budget, gotta save dollars whenever possible.

7.5in.

Prepping for a larger rear axle.  Since the Celica/Supra 7.5 locating brackets are different from Corolla, it was decide to remove and attach the Corolla pieces to retain the original geometry.

Tinkering in body work

By no means do I consider myself a body person.  But like with anything I always like to tinker.  Lately i've been less and less entertained with doing wiring.  Just like i've been bored with doing the mechnical stuff, hence why I started doing electrical stuff.  Don't know why i'm just like that.  I started dabbling in body work again, never was a strong point with me.  I've tried many times and most of the time i end up with mediocre results.  I seem to get impatient with doing body work more than doing wiring.  Now i'm back at it again doing some fender work.  Why? Somebody just asked for it.

AE86 Tech #86-20: Back up brake switch

Sometime back while working on my non boosted brake system.  I had an unfortunate mishap of breaking the switch that controls the brake lights.  Being that I was going to the track the following day, and in order to pass tech, working brake lights is a must.  I needed a quick fix.

Since I had disabled the clutch switch from a way earlier tech post, I checked to see if that was possible to use.

Brake switch (broken) clutch switch upper left

Comparing the 2 switches, the only thing really different is the rear plug.  The brake switch is one complete piece, while the clutch is wired with a plug.  Note the plugs on the body harness is different so you'll need to modify it to work with the clutch switch.  I just scrounged through my box of electrical junk and redid the plug.

Never bothered going to the yard to get the correct switch since the clutch switch is still working like a champ.

Ultimate sacrifice

Since the chief is a Starlet (KP61) guru, he is always acquiring chassis'.  But this chassis will be making one last sacrifice, by donating parts, so it's brothers may live on.  Even though it doesn't really show, it's really bent bad down the center, so it's beyond saving.  Glad i'm not a Starlet fan.

A giant pudding called Giga Pudding.  But they sound like they're saying puddi.  Anyways it's a ridiculous commercial.  But it makes hungry for some pudding.

Doing it his way.

photo by Joey L. @ The Octane Report

People try their hardest to get it JDM with a bit of fast and furious, sinking all kinds of money to get their ride on the media circus. The former neighbor Mark E. does the complete opposite and gets the former lemons car on The Octane Report. Go figure.

Here's the link to the article.
