Need more filtration

IMG_20160511_173042_494

Yes turbos require lots of air but getting a filter almost as long as the engine maybe overkill.

So long crimson zed

IMG_20160520_191526_239

It’s time to move on, you’ve overstayed your welcome and it is now time to return to your rightful owner.  Being a 260Z, I could have easily mistaken you for a 510, since you’ve nickel and dimed me of time and resources.  Some day I may own one of your siblings, though i’ll forego the Nissan L series motor and probably drop in a Chevy LS motor for simplicity sake.

The middle child

build_10-30-15_1188

One thing about the early Datsun Zs, was that you either loved the 280 and wanted a 240, or was it the other way around.  But the dirty laundry that was a 260 was left out to hang.  So picking one of these up is pretty reasonable and since it probably won’t be missed, modifying them isn’t much of an issue.   Behold the new adventure.

JCCS 2015 Fo' Sho'

Visiting car shows is not a yearly pilgrimage, for me, unlike others in this automotive game.  Just seems boring see same cars and people year after year.  So when I can't remember when the last time I went to a JCCS show it's about time.

Racin' Datsun Wagon

Swiped from racing on the cheap blog
I've been trolling this blog for quite sometime just reading the owner's race car build (an early Datsun 510 wagon) from the ground up. I must say it was one fantastic ride.  Nothing super fancy or exotic, just a couple tricks here and there.  Just a no nonsense racer for the racer.  If you want to more about his build click on the blog on my blog roll: Racing on the Cheap.

Remember your heritage Datsun!

To Americans in 1958, Japan was thought of a country that produced cheap transistor radios and toys. But this was about to change when Nissan Motor Company decides to set foot on American soil and sell a couple of automobiles under the Datsun brand. 50 years later and still chugging along, Nissan/Datsun has grown and taken its share of the automobile market. This long history leads me to Murrieta, California which is hella far from the comforts of Los Angeles, but is the location of the Datsun Heritage Museum. September 12-14 was the grand opening of the museum to the public. I opted to see this museum on the first day of it’s opening on Friday the 12th. Located in a nondescript building in an industrial area of Murrieta, kinda reminds of the Toyota Museum. Coinciding with the celebration of the grand opening, will be the be the birthday Yutaka Katayama aka Mr. K, El Presidente of Nissan U.S.A. What an awesome present. Happy Birthday Katayama san!

Upon entering we are greeted in a small office area, but the sign above the door says it all.

In the back is a warehouse where all the vehicles and memorabilia are housed.

It wouldn’t be a Datsun Museum without their most widely known vehicle, the infamous Z.

There was also an ultra rare, if not the only one in America, 1936 Datsun Phaeton. It’s amazing well it’s preserved. It’s even sporting Yokohama tires.

A very clean Nissan Patrol.

Which is even sporting Takata belts.

In this ad Roy Rogers, aka King of the Cowboys, owned one. As a kid, I used to watch reruns of black and white tv series.

The last 300ZX has also found its home at the museum.

Mr. K making sure no one steals his stuff or he'll cut you!

A real RHD Bluebird for all you hardcore JDM geeks. Though I would have to say the Phaeton would be the ultimate JDM cause no one can get it, unless you got some real cash.

There were many bits of memorabilia history here.

Though I’m not sure why this Zoom-Zoom button is here. I think that was a another automobile company slogan, which shall not be mentioned. But they make engines that go roundy round.

It would be cool if they had some captions on their pictures. I’m sure they have a story of their own to tell.
A small library is available if you ever need to do some research on your favorite Datsun.

Even if you don’t own a Nissan it’s definitely an interesting place to visit. For all you Nissan/Datsun owners, here is your mecca. To learn more please visit their website.

West Coast Z Nationals

When Spring rolls around, so do the Zs. This past weekend was the annual West Coast Z Nationals, hosted by Motorsport Auto. I don't know which was the hotter, the cars or the weather. It was a great show of all kinds of Zs from very original stock cars, to Japan wannabes to out of the box thinking. I do love this show due to the uniqueness on how each owner represents their vehicle.

Some nice original example

A very unique rear engine rear drive Z. Powered by a Maxima VQ. A work in progress.

Some may see a rust bucket, but I see a survivor. Though I don't know how much longer it'll last.

Toyota 7MGTE powered Z.

Many twins were out were roaming the show.

Tastefully done cars to represent the Japanese market, they just need the steering on the other side to complete the transformation.

The 260Z, a rare but never fully embraced model of the Z. This was the smallest group at the show, but they did have cool a Japan FairladyZ equipped with the G nose option.

Probably the most unique engine i've seen at the whole show. Twin cam twin turbo L series engine. What makes this possible is the use of chopped up KA24DE cylinder heads. An engineering marvel IMO.

Yet another Nissan using Toyota parts. Roof spoiler from an MA60 Supra on a 280Z.

Z owner's rendition of the Mach 5.

Drag race Z31.

I didn't take too many pictures of the Z32 or Z33 models, so I just took group pictures.

Nissan Motorsport brought out their former IMSA race car. Very cool to see.Nissan also brought out their GTR. Soon to be reigning terror on the streets. This was my first time to actually look at this car up close. Very impressive, now if only Nissan will let me have the keys for a day.

There was a plethora of wheels from new school to old school.

Maybe the rarest wheel for a early Z owner. Z432 optional magnesium wheels. Please leave your flares at home. If you still don't know, it's the one in the center.

The Z, a classic that has made it's mark in America. It's good to see examples that have continued to defy the years, except for that orange one. For more pictures of the event click here.
