No it's not like that crap they pull at Formula D. As of late, people seem to be buying brake boosters thinking they are bad. One person I questioned never checked the booster, they just assumed it since the brakes weren't working.
Here's how to check: Step 1 with engine off, pump the brakes a few times and hold it.
Step 2 with your foot still on the brake, turn on the car. Your foot should move forward slightly, that lets you know that the booster is working.

So before you hit the boards searching for the booster, make sure it is the booster that is causing the problem.
