More Brand Loyalty

I guess when you start stamping TRD on even the most mundane parts, like this roof rack. You will attract the filipinos from all over. TRD is like the filipino man's crack. When they see it, they will come.

Brand Loyalty

Air intake pipe by ARC, it looks so strange I wonder if it actually works? I'm sure if you show this to them Gay JDM boys they'll be drooling all over this since it's by a Japanese company. They'll buy anything that has japan all over it.

Another blind samurai

After being blown away by the Zatoichi movies, I looked for more blind swordsman movies. I came across the movie Ichi. I had high hopes on this movie. But it was kinda of a let down. But then again I was probably expecting another Zatoichi kind of plot. It was probably going a different direction.

AE86 Tech #86-18: Stay still Flywheel

There's a number of different ways to hold the flywheel while removing or torquing down the bolts. Here's 2 different methods that can be use:

The first one is probably the easiest to do and also the cheapest. If you're doing all the work yourself you should have the tools required.

All that is required is a transmission bolt and socket, usually a 15mm or 16mm works best. Setup like shown above. Currently it is setup for removing the bolts, to tighten just put the socket on the other side of the bolt. So simple and requires nothing. Nothing wrong with the f word freebie.

The 2nd will require some parts. If you have an old flex plate, cut it up and drill a hole like so.

Not a 4AG, but just to give you an idea on how it goes on.

Then install on the engine, make sure the teeth are in contact with each other, it doesn't have to be a tight fit. Once it begins to turn, it will tighten up and hold the flywheel in place.

Choose your weapon and have at it.

Disassembly

Since the motor felt a bit tired after ASB, and the spark plug in #1 cylinder didn't look too happy. A compression check revealed a little more about the health of the motor. 2 & 4 looked really healthy. Healthier than those supposedly low mileage used hi comp engines. 1 & 3 were a bit off from the rest of the bunch. So I guess it was time to yank the motor and see what's going on in there.

Now for the news, cylinder #1 suffered from detonation which in turn killed the spark plug and bending a ring land jamming the secondary ring thus losing sealing capabilities. Cylinder #3 also suffered from a bent ring land. I'm not sure if overheating of the car had something to with the detonation, since checking the last recorded peak pressure of my boost controller, it looks like it may have spiked to 24 psi. ouch. Though I don't know when it occured since i'm full throttle looking sideways and not directly at the boost gauge. The rest of the motor looks like it's in o.k. condition. I should hopefully have the car up and running soon.

"Break a leg"

Something I'm sure we've all heard before, usually to wish someone good luck. Unfortunately it was taken literally by good friend Taka A. at Formula D Seattle. Get well soon buddy, the people await the "Flying 86".

The color purple

No I didn't watch the movie, but I did observe many things purple.

Subaru Legacy. At a glance I thought the driver looked like Jesus.

Mazda RX7. Looks like a pick up.

Nissan 240sx. Tough call, it could pass for pink.

Naoki's phone. He finally got paid and got himself a working blackberry.

Purple wheels, cute.

Low enough?

After a fun saturday at ASB checked on the car to find out what I broke. I did notice that I put a really nasty dent on the oil pan. Either need to raise up car or make a sheild for the pan. Yup sheild it is. Luckily I didn't punch a hole in it.

Looks like death may have fallen upon another motor, after about 2 years of faithful service. One thing to note is when your 4AGE starts sounding like an EJ20 (Subaru engine) something is definitely not right in the world. But then again if you know how I built it, you'd probably wonder how it lasted so long. I even amaze myself that it lasted this long. Maybe this time i'll build a good motor, but then again... time to scrounge for parts.

All Star Bash 2010

Streets of Willow Springs, one of my favorite local tracks, a place when drifting was in it's infancy, it was frowned upon and black flags were thrown out like bras at a Tom Jones concert. Years later it's become main stream and now drifting is back at streets. I missed last year, but this year I definitely didn't want to miss.

Benson H. going out on track.

It was true bliss when I returned, kinda like returning to my roots of drifting. I felt like i was in a time warp, so many o.g. cats were in stopped by, though not all were drifting. Benson H., Charlie O., Alex P., Andy Y., Marc M., Sean L., Naoki K., Taka A., Antonio A., and Hiro S. if I forgotten sorry.

Some token Corollas

Back then it was all Corollas and the token 240's of Charlie and Benson. Now it's like bizarro world, where 240's are the majority and a few token corollas.

But no matter I was there to drive.

Do you remember the movie Mad Max. I wish I thought of that paint scheme.

Though I couldn't get my eyes off of this. 8 cylinders, 2 turbos, and 1 carburetor, in a 2000 lb. chassis. According to the owner it's about 400 hp.

Yeah this says it all.

Anime Expo 2010

Years ago, I used to watch anime during high school and college days. Never was really into it, but did enjoy watching them with fascination. Speed up a few years later, I seem to have picked up on watching this stuff again.

Since i've always heard of Anime Expo, Comic Con, etc., but never really bothered to check it out.

Until now, this year they had special guests Megumi Nakajima and May'n singing in concert. If you don't know, they are the singers for the Macross Frontier anime. If you don't know, i'm a big Macross fan. They also had a special guest Yoko Kanno performing with the duo.

The day was filled with lots of walking the convention center floor, surrounded by these people bringing their favorite anime characters to life. Many of the costumes I was were simply amazing. The amount of work, i'm sure some of these people put into their costumes, shows passion. I guess that's why they are called otaku.

Definitely a must to check out if you're a fan, even if you're not I think you'll probably still enjoy just watching the characters walking about.

Happy 4th of July

I hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend, but let's not forget why we have this holiday and what it means to be an american.

I've been a bit busy preparing for ASB, (All Star Bash for those not unfamiliar with mainstream drift crowd). It's been a while since I went drifting at streets of willow.

Cammy from Street Fighter

and before ASB I dropped by to check out Anime Expo, (anime otaku coming to life).

let's watch the night train from ASB

A Gift

Before the neighbor left for higher ground to Sacramento, Ca. they left me a brand new filter. Probably stolen when she worked at the dealership. Dunno why since they don't even own a Chrysler product. As most know, i'm not one to waste. Who knew it had the same threads as Toyota filters. Now every one knows. Too bad it doesn't make my car feel like it has 6 more cylinders.
