A Gift

Before the neighbor left for higher ground to Sacramento, Ca. they left me a brand new filter. Probably stolen when she worked at the dealership. Dunno why since they don't even own a Chrysler product. As most know, i'm not one to waste. Who knew it had the same threads as Toyota filters. Now every one knows. Too bad it doesn't make my car feel like it has 6 more cylinders.

Ram Vans on Wats

I never cared much for american vans much. Since they're a headache to work on, very bland, and just simply not that cool, since the days murals and dual rear axles have fallen out of style. But I think this might light that fire again. Since it's rain cats and dogs I started catching up on Jalopnik and found a small group of Dodge van enthusiasts from the land of the rising sun (Japan) have started putting cool back into vans. Never in my life would I dreamed up installing Watanabes on a van. Oddly enough it 's a bunch of VW guys talking about this stuff on their forum.

Striking resemblance

With China coming out with cars that have a uncanny resemblance to some upscale manufacturers cars, i began thinking of early japanese cars that share some features with other manufacturers. I'm not saying they're going to be exact copies, but I just see some resemblance between the models. You may or may not agree but i'll let you be the judge .
Early Nissan Skyline and Dodge Coronet Superbee, not exactly the same but the headlight surrounds have some resemblance. Japan muscle of the day meet U.S. muscle.

Another model Nissan Skyline and Dodge Challenger R/T. The front doesn't have that much of a resemblance, but it's sunk in head lights are what I see. If the center was blacked out I would definitely consider it a little more resemblance.
1st generation Toyota Celica and 67 Ghia. The front ends on these 2 cars definitely have an uncanny resemblance.

I know there's more cars that share design characteristics, i'll post others as I come across them.

My Old Pig Ain't Runnin'

Say that to a diehard Mopar fan and you may as well give me the keys to the car, cause you ain't coming back. Especially if you're in Van Nuys for the 22nd Annual Spring Fling. Even though i've owned my fair share of imports, I do have an appreciation with the american domestics, especially 60's and 70's muscle from Chrysler. From Cornets to 'Cudas, Superbees to Superbirds, they produced some of the sickest cars to ever roll from Detroit. With powerplants like the 426 Hemi and 440 Six Pack under the hood who can't love'em. Enough rambling let's take a tour.

The only rat rod I saw at the show.

AAR 'Cuda.
This is what Dodge should have based their current Charger. Not that four door passenger car.

70's Challenger looks similar to the new one. I've always favored the Challengers over the Cudas.

The swap meet itself was huge. From reproductions to rare odd pieces just about everything can be found here.

Dodge Dart Swinger, small lightweight car, just drop in a big motor and you have very good candidate for a killer drag car.

Never too young to be an enthusiast. While cruising for photos, the father was asking his son what year a vehicle was and the boy got it correct. Now that's a Mopar family.

Super Bee very simple, very cool.

The 60's were already strange enough, and Dodge offered these psychadelic tops. Known as Mod Tops they were optional vinyl tops for your Dodge/ Plymouth vehicle.

Charger Daytona Dodge's answer to Chevy and Ford during it's early racing days in NASCAR.

AMC Pacer in a sea Dodges. I don't have the slightest idea why they're here, i'll need to be schooled on this. I also came across a Javelin AMX.

Yes even there was even love for DUB crowd. Since that's not my taste here's the only pic I took. Lambo door, big wheel, and big sound. Go big or go home.

Touted as the biggest Mopar show west of the Mississippi. I assure you it was quite big. It's something for any car enthusiast or fans of Chrysler products must visit.

Formula D Long Beach 2008

It's been a while since I was a Long Beach for a motorsports event. Back when Long Beach Grand Prix when Champ Car was still Indycar World Series. Where I was rooting for Marlboro and Team Penske, even though I didn't event smoke. This past weekend I went for a visit to Long Beach for Round 1 of Formula D. I've been too many west coast events, but yet I never went to Long beach. Looking at the schedule, I didn't feel like going in and standing around for hours to see a 2 hour competition.
I had arrived there around noon time to catch the last half of the qualify session. Unfortunately, the Corolla hero Toshiki Yoshioka didn't make the cut. Qualifying 18th, missing the next round by 2 spots.

Taka and Seigo looking discussing life as a drifter? Unfortunately they didn't make the cut to move to the top
Hayashida checking out the qualifying session.
After qualify we met with a few friends working the event, but decided it would be best to cool down at Rockbottom restaurant, which is a pretty good place to eat and have a good brew.

Titan toothpicks and a red lager. What better way to enjoy Long Beach. We kept cool and our tummies full until we were ready to head back to see the top 16 battle.

I brought my point and shoot Olympus camera for all the shots, which really sucks cause I didn't know how to use it to my advantage. And add insult to injury, the battery decided to go at the start of the top 8 round.

I didn't see the end cause I had a premenition that Sam would come in first, he usually does. 2nd place would go to Forsburg, Tanner coming in at 3rd with Mohan in 4th. Boy was I wrong, after reading everythingdrift.com Damn I guess should stick it out next time, with drifting it's always anybodys game.

I think the topper for that event was Kyle Mohan. I remember when that guy was rocking the 1st gen RX7 at the drift days. And yeah he still killed it with that car. For a privateer to come up and lay the smack down to some of these competitiors a much bigger budget and horsepower to a fourth place finish is awesome. He's worked really hard to get where he's at right now and deserves it. Probably more if his transmission didn't go out. Congratulations!

Here's a couple of pics I took of the event here.

Killer Plymouth Wagon

Why am I posting a domestic car? It's because this car kicks ass. Browsing Autoblog as I normally do on my breaks at work, I came across this beast. A 1968 Plymouth Satellite wagon that had a 440 six pack thrown in by the local dealer. This was done in 1969, so it was practically a new car. As the story goes, it was just a guy who wanted to have a fast car like he had in his youth, but being the family guy he needed something more practical. For those of you who don't know, I'm a huge fan of Dodge/ Chrylser products of that era, so I just had to post this up. I wonder if i'll see this car at the Mopar show this year. I'll definitely keep a look out for this one.
