The stench of anime nerds fill the air at the Los Angeles Convention Center, for the annual Anime Expo. Every year I notice it gets more crowded by the long lines of people waiting to get in to the venue.
Even though Anime Expo caters to the newer types of anime, I grew up on Tranzor Z and Robotech. I still support it and I still love going here and its quite fun. I was bummed when I had to miss last year so I made a last minute decision to make the trek to downtown Los Angeles for the 2012 event.
Years ago, I used to watch anime during high school and college days. Never was really into it, but did enjoy watching them with fascination. Speed up a few years later, I seem to have picked up on watching this stuff again.
Since i've always heard of Anime Expo, Comic Con, etc., but never really bothered to check it out.
Until now, this year they had special guests Megumi Nakajima and May'n singing in concert. If you don't know, they are the singers for the MacrossFrontier anime. If you don't know, i'm a big Macross fan. They also had a special guest Yoko Kanno performing with the duo.
The day was filled with lots of walking the convention center floor, surrounded by these people bringing their favorite anime characters to life. Many of the costumes I was were simply amazing. The amount of work, i'm sure some of these people put into their costumes, shows passion. I guess that's why they are called otaku.
Definitely a must to check out if you're a fan, even if you're not I think you'll probably still enjoy just watching the characters walking about.
I hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend, but let's not forget why we have this holiday and what it means to be an american.
I've been a bit busy preparing for ASB, (All Star Bash for those not unfamiliar with mainstream drift crowd). It's been a while since I went drifting at streets of willow.
Cammy from Street Fighter
and before ASB I dropped by to check out Anime Expo, (animeotaku coming to life).
