Unlike oil changes I never stick to a schedule with air filters.  Just wait until it changes color.

Need more lines

Out here in the west, there’s not much use for the defroster but it’s always nice to have.   As cars age, some of  the lines on the defroster end up not working either due to deterioration, or  from damage.  So you end up with a rear window that look more like horizontal racing stripe which is barely enough to see through.  But let’s get that corrected.

Just needed to get the last nut so I can remove the exhaust manifold.  Too lazy to go under the car with  sockes and ratchet.  Half moon wrench FTW.

New year, new oil

Now that 2017 has rolled around it’s about time to take care of the annual maintenance.   Since days here in socal look like the same almost all year around, I don’t have to wait till Spring to get any work done on the silver surfer.

Back to basics

When building the Leviathan, I never considered transplanting Barney’s power plant (turbo 4AGE) over,at least not  at the moment.  Going to the track days always felt like I was never driving it to it’s full limit, and there wasn’t anyone I can compare with driving skills wise.  And what I enjoyed about the lowly under powered 4AGE, was I can push the chassis more than the engine.  Which is why I decided to run  of the mill I had laying out back.  Unfortunately, the first time out ended abruptly, about 100 yards.  But nothing that can’t be easily fixed.  Hopefully, next time I take out Levi, I’ll find out if learned anything.

Even though Levi cut it’s day short by puking  itself earlier in the day it still made a photo shoot and got some likes in the end.  Next time it’ll be hard park fest for you.

Unexpected failures

When it comes to some parts, there’s some things that you know will fail and others the you never think of ever failing.  This happens to be the latter.  But things do happen at the most inopportune time.  Unfortunately, it ruined my day and a few others.  Black Ice humbly apologizes.  Back to the cave to assess damages and come back another time. 

8/6 Day: Enter the Levi aka Black Ice

This is Levi (no attack on titan reference), short for Leviathan aka Black Ice.  It’s been a while, but I'm finally getting back into driver’s seat.  Didn’t think I’d really build another corolla after the demise of Barney.  Wasn’t even sure I wanted to put another one together, since I know how much work is involved, yeah I'm getting lazier as the years go by.   I guess it’s my destiny, but I really had to save it from the clutches of the fan boys who already pillaged the chassis and left it a slow dying death.  After many days of toiling in the summer heat getting Levi together it’s finally ready for it’s maiden track day.  Let’s hope it doesn’t fall apart on me.  Especially on 8/6 day.

Safety wire to the rescue

Losing the original clips sucks and are hard to come by now a days.  Unfortunately. didn’t have one in the back.  So made do with some safety wire.  Though not original, it does the job.
